The coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak aggravated by the drop in crude oil prices and the national currency inflation, left Russian banks short of liquidity. As a result, the Central Bank of the country had to inject a significant volume of money in the national financial sector. With over 250 billion Russian rubles borrowed in March 2020, VTB was the leader by the loan value borrowed from the Central Bank over the observed period.
