Due to the economic difficulties that the oil and gas industry in the United States was suffering as of March 2020, around 38 percent of the surveyed U.S. adults suggested that the federal government should enhance domestic oil purchasing to compensate for the decline of the demand from other customers. On the other hand, around 36 percent of respondents disagreed with any proposed measure, and stated that it was not the responsibility of the federal government to economically compensate the oil and gas industry.
