Marathon Petroleum's sale of its retail business Speedway to convenience-store chain 7-eleven was the largest mergers and acquisitions deal within the United States oil and gas industry in 2020. In a year, which saw many within the industry suffer from lower oil demand, Marathon's sale brought the company 21 billion U.S. dollars in cash. Another notable acquisition that year was the take-over of Nobel Energy by oil supermajor Chevron for 13 billion U.S. dollars.
