Hong Kong Disneyland theme park attendance 2009-2022
Theme parks in Hong Kong
Hong Kong is home to a number of famous amusement parks, from Ocean Park, the second largest theme park in the city, to Core Aquapark and some smaller ones such as Snoopy World. Marine animal theme park Ocean Park, located in the south of Hong Kong island, was built in the 1970s and has been the main crowd puller for years. However, attendance at Ocean Park started to decrease in 2015. A year later, the number of visits to Disneyland surpassed the visits to Ocean Park for the first time. Today, Hong Kong Disneyland is the city’s largest amusement park and one of the major family and tourist attractions. Besides Disney character experiences, the park offers themed accommodations, dining services, and is famous for having a wide range of activities for small children.
Development of Disneyland Hong Kong
Disneyland Hong Kong is the only Disneyland theme park among the three in Asia that is operating at a loss. Over half of its visitors used to come from mainland China. However, with the opening of Shanghai Disneyland, attendance at Hong Kong Disneyland is expected to decrease in the future.
