Crude oil imports from the U.S. to Japan FY 2023, by oil type
In the fiscal year 2023, Japan imported approximately 3.1 million kiloliters from the United States. West Texas Intermediate Midland (WTIM) crude oil made up the majority of close to 1455.5 thousand kiloliters of that import share, followed by Mars oil field in the Gulf of Mexico with about 866 thousand kiloliters.
Japan lacks domestic reserves of fossil fuels and is therefore heavily dependent on imports.
