Google Is Among the Biggest Lobbying Spenders in the U.S.
Google, the company who's informal motto is "don't be evil", has grown to become one of the largest lobbying spenders in the United States. According to the Center for Responsive Politics, Google has spent $9.3 million on lobbying so far this year, making it the 8th largest lobbying spender. The only company that spent more then Google is Dow Chemical - all other organizations in the Top 10 are industry associations or similar entities.
Because of Google's size and market power, the company has repeatedly faced antitrust allegations in the past, which is one of the reasons for the company's high lobbying expenditure. More recently though, Google has been pushing heavily for a reform of patent laws to end the flood of software-related patent lawsuits.
