Last week, it was revealed that the Doomsday Clock moved the second-closest to midnight it has ever been. It you've never heard of it, the Doomsday Clock is a symbolic way of showing how close the world is to apocalypse. The events and time have been decided by the academic journal "The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists" since 1947.
The clock recently moved 30 seconds forward to two and a half minutes to midnight due to Donald Trump's presidency and in particular his comments about nuclear weapons and climate change. The closest it has ever been to midnight was in 1953 when the U.S. tested its first thermonuclear weapon. The chart below was recently featured on the indy100 and shows various events which have moved the clock forward and back since 1947.
