In 2022, TikTok counted approximately 1.7 billion users worldwide, up by over 66 percent compared to 2020. Launched in 2017 as the international version of Chinese-developed social media Douyin, TikTok rose to popularity in 2020, reaching a peak of approximately 313.5 million downloads during the first quarter of the year. The popular social media platform is forecasted to reach approximately 2.25 billion users in 2027.
