Italy: cruise industry revenue 2017-2026

Revenue from the cruise industry in Italy declined sharply to 64 million U.S. dollars in 2020. This decline of almost 700 million U.S. dollars was the result of the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent decline in travel. However, the Statista Mobility Market Outlook estimates that revenues will begin to increase again in 2021 and by 2026 reach around 835 million U.S dollars.

A cruise is a multi-day vacation trip on a cruise ship which crosses the sea or large inland waters while calling at different tourist destinations along a certain route. With this kind of ship journey, it is not the aspect of transport that is in the spotlight but the stay aboard the ship as well as visiting the tourist destinations. The cruises segment displayed here only contains all cruise bookings, irrespective of whether the trip was booked online via the website of a cruise line, an online travel agency (OTA) or offline via a travel agency. The booking volume contains all coherently booked cruises by users from the respective region, regardless of start and destination of the journey. User numbers represent all travelers. Trips by ferry are not included.
