In global comparison, Japan leads when it comes to highest average life expectancy around the globe while, in terms of health expenditures per capita, the country ranks 15th, as of 2018. One reason behind the high life expectancy in the East Asian country could be the healthy diet consumed by many Japanese which is generally low in saturated fats and rich in certain carbohydrates.

Health care is quite an expensive business in the U.S. As of 2018, the GDP-percentage of health care expenditures amounted to 16.9% of the U.S. GDP which is more than any other nation in the world. Second in this ranking is Switzerland followed by Germany and France.
