Locations of coming across advertisements in the Netherlands 2017

More than 7 out of every 10 respondents in the Netherlands came across advertisements on TV in the past four weeks, as of 2017, followed by radio advertisement.

Digital advertising in the Netherlands
Even though TV is a popular entertainment media in the Netherlands, advertising expenditures on television have receded in the past few years. The number of brands advertising their products via television has steadily decreased between 2010 and 2019 as marketers began to look towards alternate options.

Digital advertising, on the other hand, is prospering at a rapid rate. Almost 2 billion euros were spent on this form of advertising in 2018, an amount that is higher than ad spends on radio, newspaper and TV combined.

Leading advertisers in the Netherlands
In 2017, Unilever recorded the biggest ad spending in the Netherlands. The British-Dutch multinational corporation spent 148 million euros on marketing their products, four million more than second placed Vodafoneziggo. As of 2019, Unilever is also the leading advertiser in terms of effectiveness in Europe.
