Popular devices used to play video games in the Netherlands 2017

PCs/laptops are the most popular devices among Dutch consumers aged 18 to 64 when it comes to playing video games as of 2017: Almost 40% of the respondents use either one of these devices for gaming. Smartphones aren’t far behind in this list followed by tablets and gaming consoles. This is quite in line with the worldwide gaming trend where smartphones and PCs are two of the most favored platforms for gaming.

Console gamers in the Netherlands
Gaming is usually considered a hobby of predominantly young and male parts of the population. This notion, as of 2017, is somewhat true in the Netherlands where 31 percent of the active console gamers are 21-35 years old and male. The share of video gamers, both male and female, older than 50 is comparably small, with 5%.

28.5 percent of the Dutch respondents (13 and older) owned a gaming console in 2018, an increase of one percent from the previous year. The figure was at its peak in 2014 where almost 30 percent of the consumers owned one or more of these gaming devices.
