Industry revenue of »accommodation« in Ireland 2011-2023

The revenues of the Irish accommodation industry, which includes hotels, motels, apartment rooms etc grew from 3.5 billion U.S. dollars in 2011 to 4.5 billion U.S. dollars in 2019. Amongst key reasons include, the rise in the number of tourist arrivals, favorable pricing strategies adopted by hotels and rentals, a rise in the number of overnight stays and the growth in the number of holiday rentals such as Airbnb. The Dalota Hotel Group, with 31 hotels, is the leading hotel chain group in the country, followed by the Great National Hotels and Tifco. As a general trend, hotels are the most preferred choice of accommodation, with an occupancy rate of 72 percent, as of 2018.

Initial projections demonstrated a nine percent revenue growth between 2020-2023. However, it looks rather far-fetched at this point in time, owing to the recent outbreak of the corona virus, which has significantly impacted the overall hospitality industry. Majority of the hotels and lodges have been shut for an indefinite period of time and will only resume operations once deemed safe by the government.
