Overview

For the fourth time, Forbes and Statista are awarding the title of America’s Best Recruiting Firms to organizations in the following two categories:

  • Executive Search (Recruiting firms that place managers in permanent positions with an annual gross income of more than USD 100,000)
  • Professional and Specialist Search (Recruiting firms that place professionals in permanent positions with an annual gross income up to USD 100,000)

Between the 16th of December 2019 and the 27th of January 2020, Statista, the independent market research institute and statistics platform, conducted broad surveys among:

  • External recruiters (e. g. headhunters, HR-consultants, staffing experts)
  • HR-managers/hiring managers from companies as clients of recruiting firms (including senior personnel in charge of staffing)
  • Candidates who have had experience with a recruiting firm (e. g. obtained a position)

All surveys were conducted online. External recruiters received a survey invitation via a personalized email. In addition, candidates and HR-managers were recruited directly via a carefully profiled online-access-panel. Finally, HR-managers and external recruiters that were not directly invited in the first email campaign could sign up for the survey using a self-registration form on the survey information website, providing their name and company email address.

The participants had to qualify for the survey first and were then able to name up to ten recruiting firms they know and had experience with for each category. The recruiting firms could be chosen from an extensive auto-completion list (containing more than 4,000 recruiting firms). Of course, each participant could also freely recommend any additional recruitment company.

External recruiters were able to share their expertise and understanding of the recruitment sector in the form of recommendations only. In addition, candidates and HR-managers/hiring managers could also rate their nominated recruiting firms in several dimensions on a scale from 1 (very satisfied) to 6 (not satisfied at all).

Ranking

The top lists for Executive Search and Professional Search are based on the number of recommendations as well as assessments in the various evaluation dimensions. Recruiting firms must receive a minimum number of recommendations as well as a minimum score across all evaluation areas to be included in the top lists.

In total, more than 26,000 external recruiters and 5,400 HR-managers/hiring managers and candidates were invited to participate in this year’s survey. More than 18,000 nominations have been used in the final analysis. The results from last year’s survey were also used to support the assessment of recruiting firms that maintain a consistently good reputation for high quality work.

The ranking was created through an elaborate process: Participants’ responses as well as the final selection of firms in each list were carefully reviewed. Peer recommendations given for an individual’s own firm were excluded. Statista makes no statement about the quality of recruiting firms that are not included in the lists, and their reputation is not disputed.

In total, 200 companies were awarded in the category Executive Search and 250 companies were awarded in the category Professional Search.
