oil emissions in the United States have fallen by 23 percent. In comparison, oil emissions in China have increased by almost 90 percent.
The United States emitted two billion metric tons of carbon dioxide (GtCO2) from oil combustion in 2020. This was more than any other country that year, with the second-largest emitter - China - emitting 1.6 GtCO2. Since 2005, Carbon dioxide emissions from oil combustion worldwide in 2020, by select country (in million metric tons)
