Toll charge earnings in Germany 2005-2020
Germany introduced a toll charge for trucks in 2005. It's a street use fee for heavy commercial road vehicles which is based on distance. At first it applied only to the German motorway and several strongly frequented federal highways. Then, in July 2011 the fee was extended to include four-lane federal highways with a connection to a motorway. Charges applied to motor vehicles or vehicle combinations which were intended only for commercial road haulage, and those cases where the permitted total weight amounted to at least 12 tons. Earnings from these fees increased during the years listed in this statistic, amounting to almost 7.4 billion euros in 2020.
