Most powerful passports in Latin America 2021

Chileans were the Latin American citizens holding the most powerful passport in the region as of 2021. At that moment in time, the Chilean passport received a visa-free score of 174 while Argentina and Brazil, following in the ranking, scored 170 points. The passport from Barbados was the most powerful Caribbean passport, with a visa-free score of 161 as of 2021.

* The Henley Passport Index ranks the passports of 199 nations worldwide according to the number of destinations their holders can access without a prior visa.
The total score is calculated by cross-checking each passport against 227 possible travel destinations. Each passport receives a score with value = 1, if passport holders do not require a visa (for each travel destination) or if they can obtain a visa on arrival, a visitor’s permit, or an electronic travel authority (ETA) when entering the destination.
Where a visa is required, or where a passport holder has to obtain a government-approved electronic visa (e-Visa) before departure, a score with value = 0 is assigned to the passport. The same score is also assigned if passport holders need pre-departure government approval for a visa on arrival.
