Japan: share of missing person by cause 2021

In 2021, around 29.4 percent of cases in which people were reported missing in Japan were related to illnesses. In the aging society of Japan, in which more than 36 percent of the population were projected to be aged 65 years or older in 2021, dementia was reported as the most common illness-related cause for people going missing, with more than 22 percent.
