Coal production in Russia 2000-2020, by method

Nearly 299 million metric tons of coal were produced using the open-pit method in Russia in 2020, down from 334 million metric tons recorded in the previous year. The volume of coal extracted by underground mining also saw a decrease, exceeding 103 million metric tons in 2020.
