Russia's coal production 1988-2018, by method

Since 1995, the volume of coal produced in Russia using the open-pit method steadily increased. In 2018, it reached 331 million metric tons, growing by over 61 million metric tons of coal compared to the previous year. Over 108 million metric tons of coal were extracted by underground mining in 2018.
