Civilian deaths due to left-wing extremism in India 2014-2018
According to the Indian government, there were around 173 civilians killed due to left-wing extremist incidents across the country in 2018. This number was highest in 2014 when 222 civilians died. This kind of extremism comes in various forms, but largely refers to the Naxal-Maoist insurgencies in the eastern, central and southern parts. This belt was commonly known as the Red Corridor due to its communist ideologies. As of 2011, about 83 districts across ten states were known to be affected by this kind of extremism.
