Chinese air carrier airport number 2018-2020, by region
By the end of 2020, Mainland China had established 241 licensed civil transport airports, about half of which were located in the western region. Because of the complex terrain in this region, building an airport is relatively cheaper than other transportation infrastructures, such as highways, railways, and high-speed rails. According to the government plan, the total number of civil air carrier airports will be increased to 370 by 2025.
