Number of U.S. neonatal and postneonatal deaths from 1995 to 2018
In 2018, there were 21,498 infant deaths in the U.S., around 14,329 of these deaths were neonatal deaths. Leading causes of infant mortality in the U.S. include congenital malformations, disorders related to short gestation and low birthweight, maternal complications, and sudden infant death syndrome.
