Medical debt owed by U.S. adults in 2018, by insurance type
Insurance coverage is an important issue in the U.S. at this time. Repealing the Affordable Care Act will not only impact insurance coverage but also how much medical debt people will accumulate. As of 2018, 10 percent of people covered by their employer's health insurance had medical debt of 10,000 U.S. dollars or greater. Comparatively, 17 percent of those covered by Medicaid programs had medical debts of 10,000 U.S. dollars or greater.
