Even though more women than men were estimated to suffer from food insecurity in Mexico, the percentage of people who were considered socially vulnerable for this reason was higher among the male population. In 2018, 20.5 percent of Mexican men were found to suffer from food deprivation, whereas the share stood at 20.3 percent among women.
