Share of police constable strength in India by state 2012-2016
The average strength of police constables between 2012 and 2016 was the highest in the north-eastern state of Nagaland at over 102 percent of the sanctioned capacity. Uttar Pradesh had the lowest capacity at just over 46 percent. Police constables are the lower ranking police in the country and are recruited by the state police force. Overall, the police force in India worked at just about 77 percent of its required capacity during the measured time.
