Fanzine market size in Japan FY 2019-2023
The retail value of fanzines in Japan amounted to about 93.17 billion Japanese yen in fiscal year 2022. The market size was forecast to increase to more than 105.8 billion yen in fiscal year 2023. Fanzines, commonly known as dojinshi in Japan, often feature self-published works of amateur artists. The sales of dojinshi is boosted especially through the Comic Market (Comiket), a convention held in Tokyo twice a year that allows artists to distribute their works. Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, both the Summer Comiket and the Winter Comiket attracted several hundred thousand visitors each year.
