Gender distribution of protagonists in documentaries in Sweden 2013-2017
For Swedish documentary screenwriters, it was more common to portray their own gender. Hence, 64 percent of documentaries from female screenwriters had women as the leading actresses, while only 14 percent made movies revolving around men. Male screenwriters tended to portray women to a greater extent (21 percent), although they primarily focused on men or main characters of multiple genders.
