In 2018, the group Sappi with headquarters in South Africa was the main provider of coated wood free paper in Europe, with a production capacity of 1.75 million metric tons. The global player UPM followed with 1.25 million metric tons. The coated wood free paper is obtained from chemical pulp and it is mainly used for printing.
