Share of loans in Sweden 2018, by type of bank

Large commercial banks, "storbanker" as it is called in Swedish, held the majority (57 percent) of the loans of Swedes in 2018. Foreign banks stood for the second largest share, of 20 percent, and retail banks for the third largest part, 10 percent.

Since Nordea moved their headquarter from Sweden to Finland in 2018, the bank is counted as a foreign bank in this statistic. This explain the large share of loans of foreign banks, which previously was around seven percent.
