Poland: exposure to PM2.5 concentration by region 2019-2020

In 2020, the highest exposure to a concentration of particulate matter PM2.5 in Poland was noticed in Łódzkie voivodship (the center of Poland) with 24.3 micrograms per cubic meter. The air with the smallest concentration of PM2.5 was measured in the region of Pomorskie.

Fine particulate matter (PM2.5) is the air pollutant that poses the greatest risk to health globally, affecting more people than any other pollutant (WHO, 2018). Chronic exposure to PM2.5 considerably increases the risk of respiratory and cardiovascular diseases in particular (WHO, 2018). For these reasons, population exposure to (outdoor or ambient) PM2.5 has been identified as an OECD Green Growth headline indicator.
Average annual PM2.5 particulate concentration EU/PL standard is 25 ug/m3 (WHO - 10 ug/m3) .
