Paraguay: public debt as share of GDP 2010-2018, by creditor type

In 2018, the debt that Paraguay's central government owed to foreign creditors was five times the amount of debt held with creditors based in the country. In the period between 2014 and 2018, Paraguay's external debt in relation to the country's gross domestic product (GDP) increased up to 14 percent, the highest level since 2010, whereas its internal debt dropped until 2.7 percent. Based on central government debt as percentage of GDP, Paraguay was one of the least indebted countries in Latin America in 2018.
