Number of electric vehicle registrations in Italy 2018, by type
Compared to the European and the global electric vehicle market, the Italian market's size is small. However, there was a significant increase in the number of electric car registrations in the country between 2017 and 2018, which reached 9,579 units in 2018. Of these, 5,010 were battery electric vehicles (BEVs), while 4,569 were plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs). In 2018, the number of battery electric cars registered was 50 percent greater than in 2017.
