At least 17 people have died during the state of emergency decreed in Chile between 18th and 25th of October. The crisis in Chile arose as a result of the decision of Sebastián Piñera's government to increase the price of the metro fare. The announcement led to massive evasions in public transport, along with generalized street demonstrations. After the state of emergency was established, the army was allowed to intervene. Since the conflict broke out, more than 5,400 people have been detained. In addition, over 1,000 citizens were injured.
