Capacity of import pipelines for natural gas in Italy 2018

Natural gas imports reached Italy mainly through two pipelines: the Trans Austria Gas (TAG) pipeline and the Trans-Mediterranean (TransMed) gas pipeline, which had a capacity of 40 and 37 billion standard cubic meters, respectively. These pipelines brought gas from Russia and Algeria, which were Italy's main suppliers. In total, Italy had eight entry points for natural gas imports. As of October 2019, the construction works for an additional one, the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), were 90% completed.
