Japan: preventive measures of schools against bullying 2021

Approximately 96 percent of schools in Japan organized staff meetings in 2021 as a preventive measure against bullying. Those meetings were held in order to establish a common understanding of bullying issues occurring among the student body. Following the enactment of the anti-bullying legislation in 2013, the government required schools to implement measures to identify bullying at an early stage and report even small incidents like teasing.

*Act 22 of the anti-bullying legislation describes the law passed in 2013 stipulating schools to establish an organization consisting of multiple faculty members and counselors to observe and take measures against bullying among students.
