This statistic shows the change in the average cost of sporting products for the start of the school year (middle school) in France between 2016-2017 and 2017-2018, by sales channel. It appears that the cost in specialized stores increased by 7.71 percent between 2016 and 2017, compared to an increase of more than 12 percent between 2017 and 2018.

The source adds the following information: "* Depuis la première quinzaine de juillet, des adhérents bénévoles « Familles de France », relèvent dans leur ville respective et dans chaque circuit de distribution, le prix des articles de rentrée, suivant une liste type préétablie. Cette liste type est composée de 45 références scolaires réparties comme suit :
- 17 fournitures papetières ou de classement (cahiers, classeurs, …)
- 25 fournitures non papetières (équipement de la trousse, cartable, calculatrice, …)
- 3 articles de sport (un jogging, une paire de chaussures de sport, deux paires de chaussettes)

Les chiffres de 2017 figurent dans les rapports publiés précédemment par la source; les données méthodologiques ne concernent que l'enquête de 2018.
