Customs import fees' share of remittances from South Korea 2018, by country
According to an analysis of remittances in South Korea in 2018, payment of customs import fees was the top reason for outbound remittances to the top destination countries, such as the U.S., China, Germany, and Japan. In the case of China, Germany, and Japan, these fees accounted for more than half of all remittances, and in all the top destination countries they made up at least thirty percent of all remittances.
