Number of Japanese residents in Indonesia 2013-2021

As of October 2021, approximately 16.5 thousand Japanese residents lived in Indonesia, the lowest amount of the past eight years. The Japanese population grew steadily until 2017 when it peaked at 19.7 thousand residents, but receded to the level of 2013 in recent years.
The statistic, which is based on the information gathered by Japanese diplomatic missions abroad, does not include descendants of Japanese emigrants (nikkeijin) who do not hold Japanese citizenship. People with multiple citizenship are counted.
