Opinion on the doctrine of Souverainism in Italy 2019
As of December 2019, about 55 percent of Italian respondents were in favor of Souverainism as a doctrine. More specifically, 40.6 percent of interviewees believed that a state should never give up its sovereignty. 14.6 percent stated to be in favor of this ideology because they did not trust European leaders, bankers, and bureaucrats.
Souverainism is a political doctrine defending the authority of a State over supranational unions. Thus, Souverainism takes a position against globalization and federal boundaries to make a state acquire political independence.
