Of those who filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in 2020, 49 percent of their total debt was student loan debt. Unfortunately, it is very difficult to discharge student loan debt via Chapter 7 bankruptcy, so many of these filers may still have to pay back their student loan debt.
