Europe: cash advances at POS terminals 2000-2020

The number of cash advances at point of sale (POS) terminals in Poland in 2020 was recorded at approximately 17 million in 2020. The source classified cash advances at POS terminals as "transactions in which the cardholder receives cash at a POS terminal in combination with a payment transaction for goods or services." Cash advances at the point of sale originated in the UK by the the British retail chain Tesco to alleviate the amount of cash banking that the company need to carry out.
