Monthly TikTok downloads in Italy 2020-2022, by app store

In January 2022, the number of TikTok downloads from the Google Play Store by Italian users amounted to around 587 thousand. During the same period, iOS users downloaded TikTok nearly 156.5 thousand times. During the same month, TikTok monthly active users (MAU) in the country were roughly 2.7 million. In May 2020, TikTok MAU in Italy reached six million across the two examined platforms.

Where does TikTok stand compared to other social networks?

The numbers recorded by this relatively new app were remarkable, but still quite far from those scored by already established social media apps. When looking at the most popular social networks in Italy in 2021, we see how TikTok was only sixth in the ranking, with 8.9 million users. Facebook led the ranking with almost 36 million users. However, TikTok had a quite solid base of users who use the app daily.

The content creators who contribute to TikTok’s success

TikTok was able to attract a great number of daily active users because of the appealing content shared on the platform. During the first half of 2021, the most popular content creator in Italy was Khaby Lame, with more than 36.5 million views on average for his videos. This ranking was dominated by young creators but was also used by more popular and established personalities, like Italian influencer and entrepreneur Chiara Ferragni. Artists used this platform to promote their work as well, as the presence of the rapper Paky in this ranking showed.
