Facebook pages closed for inauthentic behavior in Italy 2019
As of May 2019, an investigation conducted by the non-profit organization Avaaz enabled the multi-billion dollar company Facebook to take down 23 Italian Facebook pages for inauthentic behavior. The pages which were closed were spreading hate contents, misleading information, and far-right material. Many of them had a political content, such as "Vogliamo il movimento 5 stelle al governo" and "Lega Salvini Sulmona", which registered almost 700 thousand and 308 thousand interactions, respectively. Although some of the Facebook pages closed didn't look political, they were spreading far-right political information, including "I valori della vita" ("The values of life"), which reported 139,389 interactions.
