According to a survey conducted in November 2019 among locals of the 47 prefectures in Japan, residents in Miyazaki planned to spend an average of 7,865 Japanese yen on year-end parties (bônenkai). The national average stood at 5,419 yen, with Aomori prefecture making up the rear end of the ranking.
Bônenkai refers to celebrations commonly held in late December among work colleagues or friends to welcome the upcoming year and to forget the troubles of the previous year.
