China: TCM turnover value

With a history of several thousand years, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is commonly believed to be an effective and less invasive method to prevent or heal diseases in China. In 2020, 160.65 billion yuan worth of TCM productes were traded in the country's larger commodity exchange markets.

A holistic approach

According to the core theory of TCM, a person is sick when there is an imbalance of yin (passive force) and yang (active force) in the body. TCM remedies, such as acupuncture, cupping, and herbal medicines, can help achieve the harmony of the two energies. However, a well-balanced diet and exercise will also support good health. Many Chinese people prefer to consume traditional tonic products for various health benefits.

TCM in cosmetics

Catering to natural and organic trends, TCM concepts have been applied in many personal care items as well. It has become more common for skin care brands to use TCM medicinal plants in their products. Ginseng is the most in-demand ingredient as it is said to have the most effective anti-aging and whitening actives.
