In the 2021 financial year, there were 4,430 building and contents insurance claims related to fire events for commercial entities in Australia. Between 2011 and 2021, the number of claims peaked in 2017 with over eight thousand claims incurred.

Australia's financial year runs from July 1 to June 30. For example, the 2017 started on July 1, 2016 and ended on June 30, 2017.

Data excludes major events (total claims greater than 100 million Australian dollars). In 2019-20, data excluded the Australian bushfires (Nov 2019-Feb 2020). However, some insurers were not able to exclude major event data. Other major events excluded are the Vic Great Ocean Road bushfires in December 2015 and NSW bushfires in October 2013.
