EU Parliament seats for Romania 2014-2019

The EU Parliament elections in 2019 were characterized by a turnover in the Romanian political scene. As a result, the Social Democratic Party obtained only 8 seats in the EU Parliament, having a 50 percent decrease compared with the previous elections. The leading party for the 2019 EU elections was the National Liberal Party with a 27 percent share of votes which brought them 10 seats in the EU Parliament. In 2014, the Social Democratic Party won 16 seats, followed by the National Liberal Party with six seats.

Another notable aspect of the EU Parliament elections in 2019 included the rise of the alliance of the Save Romania Union & Romania Together which obtained 8 seats. In 2014, Mircea Diaconu also obtained a seat in the EU Parliament as an independent candidate, having reached the minimum amount of votes necessary.
