Benelux: sales growth grocers and discounters

Between 2010 and 2018, discounters in the Benelux saw their retail sales increase faster than the average market growth. In 2018, discounter retail sales grew by nearly 2.8 percent. This was twice as much as the overall market growth, which was 1.3 percent that year. In the nearby future, this trend is expected to continue. In 2020, discounters are forecast to have a 3.6 percent sales growth, whereas all food retailers (including discounters) were expected to see a sales increase of just 2.4 percent.
