In 2019, around 44 thousand BMW cars were registered in South Korea. After its sales peak in 2017, the sales of BMW have been decreasing during the past two years. BMW began selling cars in Korea in 1988 and its sales jumped from 9,600 to 16,800 in 2010. Like other brands, sales dropped in 1998 in the aftermath of the 1997 Asian financial crisis, commonly called the "IMF Crisis" in Korea.
