RBC: total GHG emissions

Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) managed to reduce their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions during the period from 2018 to 2021. Their GHG emissions dropped by around 35 percent during the period, and their target is to reduce the emissions by 70 percent from the 2018 volume by 2025. In 2021, RBC's GHG emissions was 68,232 tonnes of CO2 equivalent.

The source adds the following information: "As a responder and signatory to CDP, RBC publicly reports multi-year data on absolute and intensity based GHG emissions (Scope 1 and Scope 2) calculated according to the GHG Protocol. The GHG Protocol classifies a company’s GHG emissions into three scopes. Scope 1 emissions are direct emissions from owned or controlled sources. Scope 2 emissions are indirect emissions from the generation of purchased energy. Our GHG emissions reduction target is calculated based on a 70% reduction compared to our fiscal 2018 GHG emissions (Scope 1, Scope 2 and Scope 3) minus emissions offset from renewable energy purchases. Aligned with the science-based target methodologies based on the guidance for real estate and office properties."
